Welcome to the Come to Jesus Daily Devotional, posted every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Together, we’ve been journeying through our Luke: Exploring Who Jesus Is series. This week marks the final part of our series, and following on from Easter, we’ll turn our hearts to focus on the resurrection.

In Luke 24, we see how the risen Jesus is walking with us and revealing Himself to us on the path of our lives.

You can watch this devotional below:

Jesus is on the road of disappointment

In Luke 24:13–35, we find two disciples walking the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus—confused, disappointed, and broken-hearted. They had hoped Jesus was the one to redeem Israel, but the events of the cross seemed to crush that hope. That is, until the risen Lord Himself joined them on the journey.

Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognising him.’ (Luke 24:13–16)

These disciples were grieving and confused. The One they believed in had been crucified. They had heard the women’s report of an empty tomb, but they still couldn’t believe. And yet, Jesus met them where they were—on the road of disappointment. He listened, walked with them, and opened the Scriptures to them.

“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.” (Luke 24:27)

Sometimes, Jesus doesn’t immediately reveal Himself. Instead, He patiently meets us in our confusion, gently guiding us back to truth through His Word.

He opens their eyes around the table

“When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognised him…” (Luke 24:30–31)

When Jesus broke the bread, their eyes were opened. What a beautiful moment of revelation. It reminds us that Jesus is revealed to us, not only in teaching, but also as we have fellowship and break bread in communion. Let’s remember that taking Communion is a place of revelation.

Immediately, everything changed for them. Grief turned to joy. Confusion gave way to clarity. Their cold hearts burned with new faith.

It is true! the Lord has risen!

“They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them… saying, ‘It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon!’ Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognised by them when he broke the bread.” (Luke 24:33–35)

Their response was immediate. They ran back to Jerusalem to share the news. “It is true!” This wasn’t wishful thinking. This was resurrection reality. Jesus is alive—and He’s still opening eyes, still walking with His people, still setting hearts on fire with His Word.

Jesus is walking with us

Are you walking through doubt, disappointment, or delay? Know this: Jesus walks with you. He listens. He explains. And He reveals Himself at just the right moment. The resurrection isn’t just a past event—it’s a present power. The Lord has risen, and He meets us in our every moment of need.

Let’s Pray Together

“Risen Lord Jesus, thank You for walking with me even when I don’t recognise You. Open my eyes through Your Word and fill my heart with resurrection joy. Help me to see You, trust You, and run to share the good news: It is true! You are risen! Amen.”
